God of all people, as we receive the guilty verdict in George Floyd’s murder trial, we want to believe that justice has been done. And maybe, in this instance, it has. However, there is no rejoicing for we know that there has already been too much injustice that can never be undone. We know that this is not the end of future injustice.
So, Lord, as we give thanks for this fragment of hope you have given us today, we pray that the day is soon coming when justice will roll down like the waters of an ever-flowing stream. We pray that hearts and minds will begin to change so that we may all see the image of you in one another. We pray that the institutions that perpetuate white supremacy in this country would be brought down so that we might build upon their ruins a city of peace.
We pray in the certain hope that love will win. Amen.
